URB unveils design for Africa's largest sustainable city.
URB has revealed plans to develop Africa's most sustainable city, a development that can accommodate 150,000 residents. Known as the parks, the city plans to produce 100% of its energy, water and food on site via solar-powered air-to-water generators and biogas production. The 1,700-hectare project will house residential, medical, eco-tourism and education centers to become a major contributor to South Africa's green economy and technology growth.

Resistant land not only serves the landscape, but also promotes good use of the land. The park will integrate different methods of urban farming such as community gardens, biomes, aquaponics, and vertical farming. The agricultural infrastructure will also adopt the world's first scalable smart urban farm, which uses saline water. In addition, the city will provide fish and dairy farms powered by data science, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and automation to produce higher quality locally grown food. The organic waste will support biogas production as an additional source of energy.

The parks are innovatively planned to the highest standards of sustainability to create a unique car-free community and carbon-neutral destination. The landscape is designed to promote social sustainability and an active lifestyle, which permeates the entire public sphere of the city - Bhrach Bagherian, CEO of URB
With investments of US$20 billion, the developers expect to create more than 40,000 short- and long-term jobs during urban planning, construction and operations. The city's economy will be automated and digital, with most jobs in green technology. The park will be a benchmark for economically viable sustainable living and a positive contribution to green growth in South Africa.
Dubai-based developer URB is leading an ambitious project that connects the future of sustainable cities. Recently launched plans, such as the Urban Technology District in Dubai and Xzero in Kuwait, seek to improve density distribution to create walkable smart cities through agriculture, community development and technology.
